Finally, we can feel that summer is just around the corner. Starting June 1st, Leary's will be returning to our normal hours of operation. We will remain open from 9:00 am until 8 PM Monday through Saturday and on Sunday from 10 AM until 6 PM.

We've got fabulous new items to share with you this month. Two brand new Roses, two highly rated red blends, as well as a Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Pinot Noir. Read on to learn tasting notes, winemaker's notes, and food pairings, and discover which wine was voted #80 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2019.

Williamette Valley



This wine delivers with fresh red fruit flavors, like raspberry and ripe

strawberry. There are definitive Oregon flavors of mushroom, forest

floor, and earth. This is rich and well-built with oak and vanilla nuances

attributed to aging in French oak. Enjoy now and through 2028.


These 100% Willamette Valley Pinot Noir grapes are meticulously

hand-sorted. Each lot is fermented in small batches with up to 20%

whole cluster inclusion. Stainless steel fermentation with daily punch

downs and pump overs is followed by malolactic fermentation. These

distinct vineyard lots are barrel-aged for 8-10 months in French oak

before we make the final blend.


Near-perfect harvest conditions capped another outstanding growing

season at King Estate. Bud break came on April 22nd followed by

bloom right on time in late June. Heat spiked in August but never broke

the 100-degree mark. Cooler temperatures in September and October

created ideal conditions to let the fruit hang and flavors intensify.

Harvest on the estate began on September 21st and ran through

October 22nd, yielding 1,536 tons of fruit. Rain held off, with only

trace amounts falling before the harvest was in.

🍷Tasting Notes

The Malbec base (51%) prints violet and plum aromas along with an amazing concentration and round, velvety tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon (35%) enhances the mouth fill, reaching a better structure and complex aromas, while the Petit Verdot (7%) and the Bonarda (7%) add fruity notes, color, structure, juicy and soft tannins, and nice acidity that improves the long finish. They are perfectly combined to reach full harmony and to reflect the vintage's blend.

Grainy oak, blackberry, and raisin form a three-note nose. Tartaric acidity lifts an otherwise ripe and raisiny palate, while flavors of raisin, black plum, and vanilla finish with tobacco notes. This Malbec blend follows the recipe of very ripe fruit, lots of oak, and tartaric boost; drink through 2028.

📝VINEYARD NOTES: The 2017 vintage followed a cool very wet winter. The soils were moist and rich, which required extra meticulous care with cover crop management and canopy management. There was a heat spike at the end of August which prompted us to pick most of the vineyards in early September. The fruit came in clean and healthy and by mid-September, everything was picked and fermenting in the winery.

🍇WINEMAKING NOTES: The majority of these grapes were destemmed into small-lot fermenters to capture the uniqueness of each site. About 20% of our fruit was fermented with whole clusters to add fruit aromas and rich complexity to the final wine. Following a two-week fermentation, the lots were drained from the skins and put into French oak barrels to age for ten months. 27% new oak was used during aging to accentuate the structure and color of the wine, without overwhelming the delicate aromas of this fine coastal Pinot Noir. We bottled August 15th, 2018.

🍷Tasting Notes Opulent in the glass, this wine has TASTING NOTES: a garnet color and ripe black currant aromas. The palate is dynamic and bright, with vibrant flavors of plum, baking spice, and cocoa underscored by a firm, acid-driven structure and fine dusty tannins that carry through to a lingering finish.

The 2014 Octava Alta is produced with grapes from Vista Flores and La Consulta from the Valle de Uco, and also a blend of grapes, as it's Malbec with 20% Cabernet Franc. It fermented in French barrels that are rolled to have a gentle extraction with manual punching down and indigenous yeasts. The élevage in barrique lasted 18 months and only 10% of the barrels were new. Heady, aromatic, ripe without excess, very showy, with nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied, dense and juicy. The result is a powerful, intense, yet elegant, balanced, and fresh wine.

📝Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our vineyards in Alexander Valley and McDowell Valley. Harvested in late September and early October and fermented for three weeks at temperatures in the 70s, these grapes yielded deep, intense wine that conveys a taut freshness with great aromatic purity. Balanced between modern California and Old World, this wine is dense with buckets of black currant and cherry that are tempered with a dusty herbaceous quality. Built to age and best with food.⁠ ⁠

A powerful yet elegant wine with pepper, spices, sweet morello cherry fruit and vanilla with a smooth, mouth-filling texture. A very complete wine with a wonderfully, long, and fine finish.

📝Wine Maker's Notes

The name means "Hill of the Blackberries". Matured in French oak barriques for 18-24 months. The most full-bodied wine in the Vicchiomaggio range. All the vines are over 20 years old and are strictly pruned, ensuring that yields are extremely low. A big yet elegant wine with pepper and spices, sweet fruit, and vanilla. Full-bodied and vibrant when released, will mature over many years and become deep and complex.. Limited production ensures that this wine will always be a much-sought rarity.
