🍂 Autumn in a bottle 🍂

September 7, 2019

The staff at Leary's Liquor Cabinet have picked products that encapsulate the aromas of Autumn. Think sweet vanilla, spices, toffee, berry fruits, orange zest, spices, black cherries, blackberries and honey scents.

All the colors and flavors of the fall.

That's what we call,

Autumn in a bottle.

Chris loves this new Bolgheri Rosso 2017. A Bordeaux Blend / Super Tuscan.

Here's what Wine & Spirits says:

Notes of mint, anise and tobacco accent the ripe plum and black currant flavors in this juicy Bordeaux-style blend. It shows impressive freshness and balance considering the torrid conditions of the 2017 growing season. Aged for ten months in mostly used barriques, the wine feels well integrated and accessible right out of the gate.

Rated 93

Wine Spectator describes it as bright, laced with plum, black currant, black cherry and leather notes, this is balanced and juicy. Just as this seems soft and ready, the civilized tannins emerge. Finishes long, with a chalky feel. Best from 2022 through 2035.

Here is what James Suckling says about this wine:

Very aromatic and bright with currants and orange peel on the nose. Full body, velvety tannins and a delicious finish. Love the texture to this. Fantastic second wine of Issan. Majority is merlot. Beautiful now but better in two or three years. 92 Points

Fidel has Shafer TD-9 2016 from Napa Valley.

Lot's of great reviews for this Bordeaux blend.

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The winery’s proprietary blend of 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Malbec is hugely impressive and memorable, with a smoky, toasted oak character. Plush flavors of blackberry and cherry jam meld with spice on the rich, round midpalate. It offers plenty of grip and concentration, finishing on a handful of dried herb. (VB)" (05/2019)

91-94 points Vinous: "The 2016 TD-9 exudes raciness and total class, along with a bit better balance than the 2015 tasted along side it. In 2016, winemaker Elias Fernandez aged the components together, which, along with the natural pedigree of the vintage, goes a long way in shaping the wine's striking quality. A burst of red cherry, plum, lavender, rose petal and spice lead into the silky, super-polished finish. (ST)" (03/2018)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Red Blend TD-9 is blended of 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Malbec. It has a very deep purple-black color and displays ready-for-biz, fragrant scents of warm plums, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote with touches of baking spices, bay leaves and potpourri. Full-bodied with a serious, firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, the palate delivery loads of black fruit and spicy layers with bags of vivacity and panache. (LPB)" (10/2018)

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Leading off the reds, the 2016 TD-9 checks in as 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 16% Malbec and is a cuvée first made in 2015. Revealing considerable elegance and purity as well as medium to full-bodied richness, it offers up a terrific bouquet of black cherry and blackberry fruits, tobacco, lavender, and an alluring forest floor character. It’s already drinking beautifully yet will keep for upwards of a decade." (01/2019)
