🦃🌾🍷Fidel’s Picks for November 🌾🦃🍷

November 3, 2019

November comes

And November goes,

With the last red berries

And the first white snows.

With night coming early,

And dawn coming late,

And ice in the bucket

And frost by the gate.

The fires burn

And the kettles sing,

And earth sinks to rest

Until next spring.

Elizabeth Coatsworth

November has arrived, yes indeed, and with those "red berries" there's wine to be had.

Fidel has wine and tequila suggestions for those long nights ahead.

Eternally Silenced

🍇 Winemakers notes

Flavors of Pine needles, cranberry, dark cherry, cedar, clove, brown spice. Very soft, red berry, balanced acidity, smooth, fresh, ample structure with seamless tannins.

The Prisoner Wine Company Eternally Silenced Pinot Noir shows excellent balance and style. This wine offers a pleasing brightness and zip on the palate and in the finish. Its aromas of ripe fruits and savory spice should pair it superbly with grilled lamb chops.

Hook & Ladder
Estate Bottled Chardonnay 2018
Russian River

🍷Food and Wine Magazine
75 Of The Best California Wines
Founder Cecil De Loach named this new project for his first career, as a San Francisco fireman. De Loach has been farming Russian River Chardonnay for over 30 years.

Today, his son carries on the great tradition with this perfectly balanced medium bodied, bright and creamy effort.

🍇Juicy, ripe and supple, it's also unusually affordable for Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

🍷Lovely fresh lemon, soft yellow apple, and a touch of pineapple combine with a hint of citrus blossom and farm fresh cream with a hint of toast.

🍷Round and silky on the palate with bright acidity and a bright, lingering finish.

Baron de Ley
Varietales Tempranillo Rioja 2015

🍇Winemakers Notes
Garnacha grapes from our Los Almendros estate, from the plot known as “Las Terrazas”. Aged 6 months in French-oak “foudres”. ( French wine term used to describe a large wooden vat, which is between 20-120 hectolitres in size)

🍷Bright, lively, red colour with bluish glints. The nose surprises you with its intense aromas in which you can find floral notes, violets and subtle reminders of light toasting. Its freshness wraps around the mouth with silky tannins and good body. The long finish sees a return of the floral notes and red berries.

🍷Tasting Notes
Garnet-red colour with violet hues. Intense aromas on the nose, with red-berried fruit, reminders of the baker’s shop and vanilla. Meaty and complex on the palate with a touch of acidity to make it feel fresh and long.

🍷Smooth and fruity, resembles the best Merlot. Medium body rioja, black currant, cherry, solid deep tannins with a few layers of complexity, long finish.
Excellent value! Pairs with a variety of foods.

Domaine Cheveau
Mâcon Fuissé 'Les Grandes Bruyères' 2017

🍇Winemakers Notes
Macon-Fuissé Les Grandes Bruyeres: Approximately 6000 bottles are produced annually from 40 year-old vines in the village of Fuissé.

🍇Planted to limestone-clay soils, these vineyards produce a typically generous, rich wine from this village famed for its ideal setting that yields some of the finest wines of the Maconnais.

🍷Tasting Notes
No oak, salty nose with a surprising and fun transition into an off-dry with subtle sweeter notes. Short finish, begs you to have another taste. Herbaceous elements on the front and stone tartness on the back, with the tell-tale bite of European chardonnay.

Domaine Almanegra
Red Table Wine

Yes, that’s a man’s face on the label. And, he might even be wearing a top hat 🎩

🍇Wine Enthusiast
Rubbery, roasted, gamy aromas carry an earthy undertone.

🍷Burnt, herbal berry flavors are green, while this is oaky and tastes of latex and campfire smoke on the finish. -MICHAEL SCHACHNER

Chateau Saint-Roch Cotes du Roussillon Villages 'Chimeres

🍇 Winemaker Notes
Chimeres is made from vines of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan planted on black schist and schistous clay soils near the village of Maury and at the base of the mountain-top fortress of Quéribus – one of the last sanctuaries of the Cathars. Made through a strict selection of fruit, first at the vineyard and then a berry by berry selection after destemming, Chimeres captures the dark fruit flavors and spicy minerality of the black schist soils of Agly valley.

Giving up jammy notes of black raspberries, licorice, smoked herbs and chocolate, aged in demi-muid and concrete vates) needs to be snatched up by savvy readers.

🍇Full-bodied, deep and layered with incredible texture. I would gladly pay three to four times the going rate. Bravo!

🍇Tasting Notes
Dark garnet in color, the 2017 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon expresses aromas of freshly picked blueberries, ripe black cherries, with subtle notes of roasted coffee, cocoa and dried spices.

🍷On the palate, the luscious supple tannins are powerful yet modern in style with layered flavors of juicy blackberry and red fruit, while nuances of black pepper, clove and vanilla bean round out the long smooth finish.
